He said this as the chief guest at an introduction meeting organized by the NCP at the Yusufpur Ideal School grounds in Debidwar upazila of Comilla on Saturday afternoon. The meeting was organized by the local Yusufpur Union NCP with the aim of creating a ‘corruption-free Debidwar, a non-discriminatory social system, economic progress, self-reliance in agriculture, development in industrialization and trade, and social welfare and the rule of law.’
Hasnat Abdullah said, ‘If someone throws stones at me, I will throw flowers at him and pull him to my chest. Because, I do not believe in the politics of revenge. Many people have torn my posters due to the politics of revenge. Remember one thing, no one can hold back the one whom Allah honors and elevates. We have to stay away from the politics of revenge. The politics of revenge, the politics of violence never do any good. I did not come from Devidwar, I was born in Devidwar. I am the child of Devidwar. So do not play the politics of revenge with me. Hasnat Abdullah said, “Before the July-August coup, we saw that the beards of the Hujurs were pulled down from the mahfil, the microphones were turned off. You have seen that many became MPs by spending one to one and a half billion taka. The boys who gave their fresh blood on the streets in the July-August movement did not want to become MPs, they did not want power. They wanted reforms in the country. They wanted freedom of speech, voting rights and trial of murderers. But you are demanding votes with a timeline, leaving aside trial and reforms.”
